Historic buildings and pagodas listed in Yangon Region

The Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library (Yangon) will continue compiling the list of historic buildings and pagodas over 100 years in Yangon Region, said U Kyaw Nyunt, director of the department.

The list does not focus on strength of the structures but only on their age. At present, the list of over-100- year-old buildings and pagodas in Yangon’s suburb townships Hmawby and Hlegu have been compiled and another survey is planned in Htantabin and Taikkyi.

There are 24 historic buildings conserved by the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library in Yangon Region and the department designated the 16 buildings as the historic building zone in 2009.

The department has formed respective management teams to conserve those 16 buildings while conserving 10 other buildings. (447)
