Get the entire Tatmadaw to kick-start tree-planting for this rainy season

Yesterday’s tree-planting ceremony was to get the entire Tatmadaw to start paying attention to tree-planting for this rainy season. In doing so, those trees need not only to grow well but also to yield benefits for own military units or regions, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in extending his greetings at the first monsoon tree-planting ceremony for 2017 near Yezin Dam in Zeyathiri Township,Nay Pyi Taw at 7 am yesterday.

Also present on the occasion were the Senior General’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla,Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife 

Daw Than Than Nwe, Union Ministers for Home Affairs,Defence and Border Affairs and their wives,the Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and wife, the Commander-in-Chief(Navy) 

and wife, the Commander-in-Chief(Air) and wife, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command and wife, senior 

officer trainees from the National Defence College and officers and other ranks from the offices and departments of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and their families.

In his greetings, the Senior General said as the saying that goes by “climate rests on forests”, trees and forests give shade and better climate. Planting trees now means producing benefits for the posterity. Growing trees must be successful as well as beneficial. In doing so, planting a tree carelessly must be avoided, whereas post-nurturing is a must after a tree has been planted. Weeding and nurturing must be continuously done. Treeplanting must not be done superficially but it must be done in the real interests of own military units and regions. The Senior General stressed the need to collectively grow trees in public places as well as individual residences and environs as much as possible.Trees and forests which benefit the climatic conditions can be used efficiently in other necessary arenas. Depending on present situation of supply of electricity, branches of trees are used as fuel such as firewood and charcoal. In the past eras, a motto was chanted, “To build paradise through electricity”. The Senior General urged them to make concerted efforts for generating electricity in their bid as electricity is essential for development of socio-economy of the people. It needs to strive for generating electricity through hydropower, windmill,solar and coal. The present fruitful results they enjoy came out from endeavours of forefathers.The fruits of their efforts will be left for new generations. As such,the Senior General urged them to continue growing of trees on a wider scale.

Then, the Senior General grew a star-flower plant while the wife of the Senior General cultivated a Gangaw (Mesua ferrea) sapling.

Afterwards, the Vice-Senior General and wife, the Union Ministers and wives, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and wives and those present planted saplings at the designated places.

Next, the Senior General and party viewed round participation of officers, other ranks and families in collectively growing of trees at the ceremony.

A total of 7,200 precious teak saplings were grown at today’s first rainy season tree planting ceremony for 2017 organized by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) has grown 93,750 saplings including precious plants,perennial crops and wind-breaks at the rainy season tree planting ceremonies from 2011 to 2016 with the aim of conserving environment and ecosystem around Yezin Dam.Nurturing and conservation is being carried out to thrive the planted trees and not to deforest them. And,plans are underway to continue holding the rainy season tree planting ceremonies.
