Yangon April 9
Hot air balloon fl ights have become another attraction to tourists visiting Myanmar and the number of hot balloon fl yers is increasing year by year, said local and foreign tour operators.
In 2014, a total of 17,802 foreign travelers took hot air balloon ride, yielding the revenue of 4,231,342 USD. As Myanmar is expected to attract more foreign travelers in 2015, the country is likely to see an increase in number of hot air balloon flyers.
More foreign visitors are taking balloon ride as balloon service providers provide complete service as transfers from hotel and issuance of certificates upon completing the hot air balloon flight.
In 1999, Myanmar Investment Commission permitted operation of hot air balloon flights over Bagan. The fl ight lasts 45 minutes is run twice a day. Most of foreign tourists who take the balloon ride are from European countries like Germany, France, US, Britain and Asian countries like Japan, China and South Korean.
The flight offers the flyers the most spectacular bird’s-eye view of the cultural showcase and the foundation of the First Empire of Myanmar.
Hot air balloons are run only six months a year, from October to March. As the hot air balloon season has ended now, foreign travelers are booking for the next season.
At present, there are three hot air balloon flight operators in Bagan whose balloons are imported from England. Those balloons are divided into 4-seater, 8-seater, 12-seater and 16-seater ones and are mostly steered by English pilots.
