Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win received Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Myanmar, at the Parlour of Bayintnaung Villa here this afternoon.

Also present at the meeting together with the Vice-Senior General were senior military officers of the Office of the Com-mander-in-Chief (Army). The Special Envoy was accompanied by Senior Political Affairs Officer Mr. Jung Hwan Lee and officials.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on the efforts of the Independent Commission of Enquiry to internationally release the truth about the Rakhine State issue, latest developments on the contacts with the UN on child soldier issue, the work of the Central Committee for the Implementation of Peace and Development in Rakhine State formed under the leadership of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, for restoration of progress in Rakhine State, security measures being taken in northern Rakhine State after the incidents occurred in August 2017, citizenship verification of Bengalis, latest developments of Rakhine State and future situation, the Tatmadaw’s cooperation with the government and armed ethnic groups for restoring eternal peace based on six-point peace policy, and the impossibility of the armed ethnic groups to make demands under the armed struggle line at a time when the nation is practising multi-party democracy.The Special Envoy discussed cooperation for the international community to know the true situation in Myanmar.
