Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who is on a goodwill visit to the Russian Federation,visited Archestrakyigar Mehailar Cathedral in Sevastopol at 5 pm local standard time yesterday.The Senior General was accompanied by Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), senior military officers and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Nyunt Swe.

The Pastoral of the cathedral welcomed the Senior General and party and conducted them round the religious building. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing presented cash donation to the cathedral.During their visit to Fortification and Engineering Installations Museum in Balaklava,the Senior General and party heard a report on the building the museum as a fortification to protect submarines against atom bomb attack, salient points of the submarines from the Soviet era till now and the building of the canal tunnel presented by its curator. They then visited the booths and asked further information for knowledge. The Senior General signed the visitors’ book.

The museum built during the Soviet era is an 800-metre underground canal tunnel to protect submarines from nuclear bomb attack.It could accommodate up to ten submarines at a time and also served as a place where subs could arm themselves. It can withstand up to 100 kiloton nuclear attack. It is now a museum to foster patriotism of Russian youths and people and attract global tourists.Afterwards, the Senior General and party conducted a study tour of the Strand Road.

The Senior General and party arrived at Black Sea Naval Headquarters Museum in Sevastopol where they were conducted round by officials. The Senior General signed the visitors’ book.The museum displays naval ships, weapons and other gear used by the naval headquarters during the successive periods.
