Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attends opening ceremony of 7th Japan Cup Karatedo Contest for 2017


The opening ceremony of 7th Japan Cup Karatedo Contest for 2017 takes place at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna, Yangon.

The 7th Japan Cup Karatedo Contest for 2017, jointly organized by the Japanese Embassy to Myanmar and the Myanmar Karatedo Federation, was opened at the National Indoor Stadium (1) (Thuwunna) in Yangon at 9 am yesterday.

The ceremony was attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association Mr. Watanabe, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar H.E.Mr.Tateshi Higuchi, the commander of Yangon Command, officials of Yangon Region Government, officials of the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Japanese Embassy to Myanmar, officers, other ranks and families of Yangon Station, members of the penal of judges, athletes and spectators.

First, Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Tateshi Higuchi delivered an opening speech and opened the ceremony. Then, President of the Myanmar Karatedo Federation Dr Win Zaw spoke words of thanks. 

Then, the athletes recited the oath of sports. The Senior General, the Chairman of Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association, the Ambassador and the President of Myanmar Karatedo Federation presented gifts to the athletes after cordially greeting them.

Next, the athletes demonstrated their skills in respective sport events. On the first-day event, the Senior General and those present enjoyed the competitions of athletes.

Today’s Japan Cup Karatedo Contest is jointly organized by the Japanese Embassy to Myanmar and the Myanmar Karatedo Federation annually. A total of 18 contending teams with 195 athletes will participate in the contest. The second-day event and prize-presentation will take place at the stadium on 24 March.
