An explosion happens on Namtu Bridge on Lashio-Muse Highway

A Mitsubishi Pajero exploded on the Namtu Bridge on Lashio-Muse Highway, Hsenwi Township, Northern Shan State on 20 November. Three people were injured in the explosion of the car, according to the State Counsellor’s Office Information Committee.

At 10.30 am, the dark green Pajero coming from Kutkai township stopped on the Namtu creek crossing reinforced concrete bridge. While the bridge security guards told the driver not to stop on the bridge for security reasons, the driver left the scene saying he needed to pick up a package which was dropped off the car. The explosion occurred while the driver escaped to behind the bridge and the car fell down to creek.

Because of the explosion, U Tun Aye from Kaung Haw village was seriously injured whereas Ma Nan Tin Myo Khine and Mg Zwe Htet Ko from Hsenwi Township were not seriously injured and they were all hospitalized at Hsenwi People’s Hospital. The explosion damaged the floor of the bridge, resulting in a hole of about 6 feet in width and 10 feet in length and both sides  of bridge railings were damaged. The police found a suspicious looking person called Eik Awl (alias) Aung Zeya, son of U La Eik, from Manchest village and interrogated him to be able to expose other suspected criminals involved in the explosion.
