Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, currently in Nagaoka,Japan, on a goodwill working visit, received Niigata Prefecture Minister Mr. Yoneyama Ryu Ichi and Chairman of Komeito Party Mr.Natsuo YAMAGUCHI separately at the meeting room of Hotel New Otani at 5.15 pm local standard time on 2 August.
Present at the calls together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army)and senior military offi cers. Mr.Yoneyama Ryu Ichi and Mr. Natsuo YAMAGUCHI were accompanied by Japan-Myanmar Association Chairman Mr. Hideo WATANABE and officials.
Both sides frankly discussed Myanmar’s pursuance of multiparty democracy, Tatmadaw’s cooperation with the government,Japanese assistance in the internal peace process, the academic study by Myanmar Tatmadaw officer trainees in Japan, sending of more trainees and strengthening of friendly cooperation between Myanmar and Japan.
Next, Japan-Myanmar Association Chairman Mr. Hideo WATANABE hosted a dinner to the Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at Hotel New Otani.
The dinner was also attended by the Senior General’s wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Lt-Gen Soe Htut, Lt-Gen Hsan Oo and Lt-Gen Nyo Saw of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief(Army), Myanmar Military Attaché(Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Saw Min and military officers. Together with Mr. Hideo WATANABE were Chairman of Komeito Party Mr. Natsuo YAMAGUCHI and officials.First, Mr. Hideo WATANABE extended greetings. Next,the Senior General and Mr. Hideo WATANABE had the dinner together with those in attendance.
In the evening, the Myanmar Tatmadaw delegation led by the Senior General visited the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival.
The Fireworks Festival is held every year from 2 to 3 August as the rehabilitation festival of Nagaoka. It is organized with the aim of mitigating people’s trauma and encouraging them a year after 80 percent of the Nagaoka city was destroyed and over 1,000 people were killed in the US bombing on 1 August 1945 and praying for the brightness of the people across the globe and their peaceful future.The festival is usually visited by more than 250,000 people and very beautiful and weird fireworks are set off.
