War veterans who had made sacrifices for the country during their service must also make contributions for the benefit of the country in one way or another

Since the independence struggle, the Tatmadaw has the tradition of serving the interest of the state and the people. The Tatmadaw is on its continuous drive for setting up the armed forces reliable for the nation and the people while maintaining its fine historical tradition. War veterans who had made sacrifices for the country during their service must also make contributions for the benefit of the country in one way or another,said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during his meeting with war veterans of the War Veterans’ Housing (Laydauntkan), Agriculture/Livestock Ward No. 1, Dagon Myothit (South)Township, Yangon Region, this morning.

Accompanied by Commander-in-Chief(Navy) Admiral Tin Aung San, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, and the commander of Yangon Command, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected the high-rise war veterans’ housing project of Myanma Thargaung War Veterans’ Housing in Dagon Myothit (South) Township,Yangon Region.

At the briefing hall, the Senior General heard report on history of Myanma Thargaung War Veterans’ Housing (Laydauntkan),and War Veterans’ Housing of Agriculture/Livestock Ward No. 1 (Laydauntkan), and accommodation allotments and occupation presented by the command commander and war veterans’ housing estates under planning stage, electricity and water supply arrangements, and plans to introduce Automatic Poultry Farming System presented by the Quartermaster-General.

In response to the report, the Senior General gave instructions on systematic growing of windbreak in this rainy season,green zone establishment and livestock breeding in vacant land in accord with the prescribed rules and disciplines, production of other commodities in addition to agriculture and livestock breeding, establishment of cottage industries for job opportunities,sale of those goods to Yangon residents at reduced prices, supply of enough electricity and water, providing of electricity through solar energy and long-term development of markets, schools, hospitals and recreation centres like parks. Next, the Senior General inspected the site chosen for constructing a high-rise housing project for war veterans where he was conducted round by officials.

In meeting with members of War Veterans Organization at the War Veterans’ Housing (Laydauntkan) in Agriculture/Livestock Ward No.1, the Senior General said this site has been relocated for war veterans since the time of the former Tatmadaw government.However, no development was seen due to various reasons. Although the war veterans were taken into consideration, the Tatmadaw had to prioritize state stability and security in the democracy transition period. But over the past two years, housing projects for war veterans could have started after preparations.

The Senior General continued to say that resettlement plans were considered for those who lost their lives for the State, those who lost their limbs, retired Tatmadawmen and war veterans. 

Priority is given to accommodation.And then, jobs, health and education are considered for them. War veterans’ housing projects have so far been implemented in major cities such as Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Magway. Likewise, housing projects for war veterans are being implemented in Toungoo,PyinOoLwin, Lashio, Myitkyina, Pathein,Myeik, Kholan, Hopong, Kyaikto, Monywa,Kyaukpyu, Buthidaung, An, Papun and Dawei. High-rise housings will be built in Laydauntkan housing projects for war veterans. The housing will be earmarked as a model place where garment industries,cottage industries and other production can be operated under the disciplines in addition to carrying out agriculture and livestock breeding tasks with the purpose of creating job opportunities. These productions aim to enable war veterans to have earnings while contributing to wards welfare of city dwellers in Yangon.

Then, the Senior General stressed the need to actually live there under the disciplines with arrangements for the heirs to have the rights of living although military personnel will have the rights of ownership for apartments without permission to resell those apartments.The Senior General urged them to live there unitedly in line with the military disciplines by accepting the concept that if one became soldier for a moment, one would be soldier forever. Those living at the apartments need to hold coordination to have mutual respect and avoid misunderstanding among them depending on the age, ranks and responsibilities.The Senior General urged them to cooperate with officials in procedures of daily life in their respective regions under the laws.

After the meeting, the Senior General presented electric trishaws and maintenance allowance to the war veterans with disabilities.Then, the Adjutant-General and the Quartermaster-General presented male sarongs and foodstuffs.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party cordially greeted the war veterans who attended the ceremony and fulfilled their requirements. Later, the Senior General gave words of encouragement to war veterans and families after visiting the war veterans’ housing.
