Press release on clashes between Tatmadaw column and TNLA insurgents in Namkham Township

While a Tatmadaw column on duty of military operation and regional security, acting on information, was conducting area clearance operations in Namkham Township, Shan State (Northern),on 11 July, they confronted about 30 TNLA insurgents about 2,100 meters southeast to Awelaw Village in Manwun Village-tract at about 1.30 pm. At about 1.50 pm after the fighting, the insurgents retreated northeastwards.

In the clash, one Tatmadawman was wounded but not in serious condition. Dead bodies of eight insurgents were seized together with three small weapons of various kinds and a Toyota Hilux double cub that was damaged after being plunged down a ravine.

Among the TNLA insurgents, the bodies of three men and five women in camouflage uniforms were seized together with two M-22 guns, one M-21 gun, eight magazines, 132 bullets, eight sets of equipment and three China-made grenades. Those dead bodies were properly buried near the scene at about 5 pm.

In investigating the incident in detail, Toyota Hilux Double Cub which plunged into the ravine was owned by New Day Asia Mining Company which was allowed to carry out extraction of minerals on test around Namnat-Hwelaung region at Maho Creek in Mantung Township.

According to the investigation, staff member of the company U Sai Kyaw Aye and three others were included in the skirmish. In scrutinizing the event whether it was correct or not, as U Sai Kyaw Aye and three staff members went to Namkham from the workplace on 11 July by such car to buy something, the TNLA insurgent group which committed skirmish stopped the car at the estimated place (LF-437938) and asked to transport them to Awelaw Village.

While the TNLA insurgent group was riding the car, the skirmish happened. Staff members—right forearm of U Sai Kyaw Aye and right calf of U Sai Pe Win—were injured in the event, and they are receiving medical treatment at Tahong Dai Hospital in Mansi of China. With regard to the skirmish which happened with TNLA insurgents on 11 July 2018, the Tatmadaw True News Information Committee released the true information on death of five women in the skirmish.
