Myanmar-India UN Peacekeeping Operation Training Course opens


Vice-Senior General Soe Win addresses opening of UN Peacekeeping Operation Training Course.

As part of a training cooperation between Myanmar Tatmadaw and the Indian Armed Forces, the opening of UN Peacekeeping Operation Training Course took place at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win.

Also present at the opening ceremony together with the Vice-Senior General were senior military officers from the Commander-in-Chief’s Office, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E.Mr. Vikram Misri and Defence Attaché Col. Naveen Mahajan, training offi cers from the Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) of the Indian Armed Forces and offi cer trainees and servicemen from Myanmar Tatmadaw.

In his opening speech, the Vice-Senior General said Myanmar Tatmadaw has been sending staff officers to UN peacekeeping missions.He also explained the facts about the opening of training courses in the country by inviting mobile training teams from friendship countries, military exercise cooperation between the armed forces of the both countries, the teaching of lessons pertaining to rules and regulations to be followed by members in peacekeeping operations and the Myanmar Tatmadaw’s major role in the national reconciliation and peace-making processes. After that, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar gave a speech. A training offi cer from the Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) of India made a power point presentation of India’s participation in the UN Peacekeeping Operation.

The Vice-Senior General posed for documentary photo together with those present at the opening ceremony, training officers and servicemen from CUNPK and officer trainees and viewed round the documentary photos displayed. The training course which will last till 16 February includes theoretical and practical subjects on ethics of the UN peacekeeping troops, civilian protection, child protection, military-civilian cooperation, history of UN peacekeeping processes and its continuous efforts.
