Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation pays homage to historic Buddhist monuments in Gaya, India and arrives in Ahmedabad

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and party, who are on a goodwill tour to Gaya in India, went to the Forest of Uruvela and Dukkaracariya Hill in Gaya, where the Buddha learned of deep meditation for six years and paid homage to the monument cave where the Buddha sat for meditation, yesterday afternoon.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party offered water, oil light and joss sticks to the Buddhist altar built to mark the offering of a bowl with Ghana milk-rice to the Buddha by Sujata, daughter of a wealthy man.A Buddhist altar next to it is built on the bank of the Neranjara River, to mark the drifting of a gold bowl into the river by the Buddha.

The goodwill delegation looked round the altar where the Buddha accepted the eight handfuls of grass from a grass-cutter Brahmin and paid homage to the pagoda built to mark Sujata’s house.This morning, the Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation paid homage to Japan Buddha Image built by Japan in Gaya. First,Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla paid obeisance to the Buddha Image by offering oil light and joss sticks.

Then, the Senior General and wife signed the visitors’ book after visiting the precinct of the Buddha Image. The Buddha Image,80 feet high, was built during the three-year period from 1986 to 1989. Five Arhat statues and five disciples from the lift wing were also built in the precinct.

At 1.30 pm local standard time, the Senior General and party left Gaya for Ahmedabad by the special aircraft of the Indian Armed Forces. The Senior General and party were seen off at Gaya Airport by Deputy Commandant of Gaya Officer Training Academy (OTA) Maj. Gen. K J BABU and wife, Kolkata Consul General U Pyi Soe and officials.

Next, the Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation arrived at Ahmedabad Airport at 4.15 pm local standard time. At the airport,they were welcomed by Commander of No.11 Division Maj. Gen. ANIL PURI and wife and officials.
