Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, currently on a goodwill visit to New Delhi, India, at the invitation of Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (Army, Navy and Air) Admiral Sunil Lanba, was accorded welcome by the Chairman with the Guard of Honour on the South Block Lawns of the Indian Ministry of Defence at 9.15 am local standard time yesterdayday.

First, the Senior General and delegation members arrived at the site of the welcoming ceremony where they were cordially greeted by the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. Next, the Senior General took the salute of the Guard of Honour and inspected it.

Afterwards, the Senior General and Admiral Sunil Lanba met at the meeting hall of the South Block. Also present together with the Senior General were Lt-Gen Soe Htut of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), senior military officers and Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy and Air) Brig-Gen Thein Zaw. Admiral Sunil Lanba was accompanied by Director General of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) Lt. Gen. Khandare, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Mohit Gupta and senior military officers.

The Senior General said that Myanmar and India are two neighbouring countries having a long history of relations and that must be maintained for long. Naval trainng is important for the Myanmar Tatmadaw (Navy)’s effort to reach the blue navy level in the region. The Indian Armed Forces is thankful for cooperation.

Exchange of naval vessels between the two countries and coordinated patrolling in border waters will be extended. Moreover, emphasis will be placed on exchange of goodwill visits of representatives at various levels between the two militaries (Army, Navy and Air), speeding up the tasks of Myanmar and India in military medical sector of the ASEAN region and ensuring lasting peace along the border of the two countries, added the Senior General.

Admiral Sunil Lanba talked about HADR tasks during the goodwill visits of naval vessels from the two countries, cooperation in giving medical treatments by naval hospital ships, promotion of cooperation in navigational measurements, exchange of goodwill visits between two armed forces (Army, Navy and Air) and holding of more workshops. They then cordially discussed naval security issue, anti-terrorism, training affairs and military medical issue.

The Senior General and Admiral Sunil Lanba exchanged gifts and the former signed the visitor’s book.

The Senior General and party together with Admiral Sunil Lanba and Director General of Defence Intelligence Agency Lt. Gen. Vinod G Khandare arrived at the Naval Conference Hall of the South Block. There, Air Vice Marshal S P Wagle of the Indian Armed Forces gave a detailed account of India’s security outlook with a power point presentation. With regard to the clarifications, the Senior General expressed his sadness for terrorist attacks which recently occurred in Jammu and Kashmir region. He condemned these terrorist acts. He said he understands security challenges of India. He pledged to raise cooperation between the two armed forces of Myanmar and Indian in anti-terrorism, rescue and relief in natural disasters, and security measures in maritime trade in the Indian Ocean. He noted that the Bay of Bengal is of importance in security of Myanmar seas. He said he will promote cooperation in various arenas between the two armed forces.

Then, the Senior General held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Armed Forces Gen. Bipin Rawat at the latter’s office. At the meeting, the Senior General expressed his belief that strengthened relations between the two armed forces of Myanmar and India will contribute towards further cementing the friendly relations between the two countries. The two countries are making cooperation in ensuring eternally peaceful and stable border region. The senior staff talks and RBC meetings are held between the two armed forces. It needs to give chances to ground troops to meet each other. The Senior General said that Myanmar on her land will not accept any organization which makes trouble to India. Myanmar Tatmadaw on its bit will help India realize the Act East policy. It needs to enhance capability of the Tatmadaw to be able to defend the State. So, cooperation will be promoted to seek experience of Indian Armed Forces and taking training affairs.

Then, the Indian Chief of Army Staff said he supports the endeavours of Myanmar Tatmadaw for enhancing its capability. As such, the Myanmar Tatmadaw will carry out State defence duty and peace and stability processes, benefiting the two armed forces of two countries. He pledged the Indian Armed Forces will give a helping hand to Myanmar Tatmadaw. The Indian General discussed that priority will be given to ensuring peace and stability in border region. Then, the Senior General and the Indian General exchanged commemorative gifts.

At the Army Conference Hall of the South Block, the Myanmar Tatmadaw goodwill delegation led by the Senior General heard clarification on history of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), organizational setup, higher learning system under the organization, and welfare on education for family members of soldiers presented by Maj. Gen. Sunil Chandra (Retd) who had discharged duty of the Adjutant-General of the Indian Armed Forces. After hearing the clarification, the Senior General said tasks of AWES are much beneficial to family members of the Indian Armed Forces and raise their reliance on the armed forces. Tatmadaw members can create chances of learning as legacy to offspring. And, the Senior General discussed arrangements for enhancement of education standard of family members of the Myanmar Tatmadaw.

At 9 am local standard time, the Senior General and party arrived at the National War Memorial at the India Gate where they were welcomed by Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (ACIDS) Rear Admiral KM. Dhir and party. Next, the Senior General laid a wreath at the memorial and paid tribute and signed the visitor’s book.

Likewise, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Senior General, and party arrived at the residences of officers and other ranks of the Indian Navy Headquarters at 10.30 am local standard time. They were welcomed by Chairperson of Indian Navy Families Welfare Association Mrs. Reena Lanba and members. 

At the head office of the Indian Navy Families Welfare Association, welfare for the families of Indian Navy was presented. After visiting the care centre for the children with disabilities, Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and party donated cash.

Later, they viewed round improvement of living standard, tasks for health and education sectors, and conducting of on-job training courses for wives of the families of Indian Navy.
