A ceremony to donate rice, edible oil and cash donation for members of the Sangha from monasteries and nuns from nunneries in Kengtung took place at Sasana Beikman in Kengtung yesterday afternoon. The ceremony was attended by Abbot of Kengyin Monastery Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Bhaddanta Khemacara and members of the Sangha, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Aung Zaw Aye, members of Shan State Cabinet, departmental officials and townselders.
First, the Senior General and party took the Five Precepts from the Abbot of Kengyin Monastery.Then, members of the Sangha recited Paritta.
Afterwards, the Senior General and wife offered rice, edible oil and cash to be spent on nine prerequisites donated by families of Tatmadaw(Army, Navy and Air) to the Abbot of Kengyin Monastery while senior military officers donated similar donations to members of the Sangha.
Later, the congregation shared merits gained for donations after receiving a sermon delivered by Abbot of Thathayaaye Monastery Bhaddanta Kosalla. Today, families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) donated 316 bags of rice, 504 viss of edible oil and K16.2 million to 74 monasteries and nunneries in Kengtung.
