Nay Pyi Taw May 20

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who attended the 14th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Informal Meeting (14th ACDFIM) in the Philippines arrived at the residence of the Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy, Air) of the Myanmar embassy in the Philippines at 7 pm local standard time yesterday and was welcomed by Ambassador U Win Naing and wife, Military Attaché Col Win Myat and embassy families. The Senior General was accompanied by wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and senior military officers.

The Senior General gave a speech, saying that the visit was to attend the 14th ACDFIM which produced good results. The closer goodwill ties among the ASEAN armed forces had further cemented friendly relations among the ASEAN member states. Moreover, better ties and trust could be built through the bilateral meetings between the military leaders. The friendship between the two militaries will strengthen the relations between the two countries. Different countries have different political objectives. However, the armed forces from the ASEAN countries are the same. They have to be on a friendly term as they exist together in the ASEAN community, said the Senior General.

He then stressed the need for the office of military attaché to strengthen the relations between the militaries of Myanmar and the Philippines. Families of the embassy and the military attaché office need to study and have a good command of English, the Philippine language and computer application. By doing so, it will benefit the State and the Tatmadaw as well as themselves. They also need to try to be in good health. For them medical treatment is difficult as they do not live in their own country. The embassy staff must try to serve their own country under the leadership of the ambassador, who is representative of the country. Meanwhile, they must work in unity. It is also necessary to perform staff duties correctly, said the Senior General.

Later, the Senior General and wife presented foods, gifts and clothes made by Tatmadaw garment factories. Ambassador U Win Naing and wife, Military Attaché Col Win Myat and staff families of the embassy and military attaché office accepted the gifts.
