Tatmadaw aspires to peaceful, stable and developed democratic nation

The Tatmadaw is doing its job with the conviction that it must safeguard and the nation well, it must benefit the nation and it must be a reliable force for both the State and the people. The Tatmadaw has initiated the current political developments and changes of Myanmar. The Tatmadaw aspired to a peaceful, stable and developed democratic nation during the time when the transitional duty fell on its shoulders, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with Emeritus Senior Minister Mr. Goh Chok Tong of the Republic of Singapore at Zeyathiri Parlour here at 3.30 pm yesterday.

Also present at the call together with the Senior General were Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in- Chief. Mr. Goh Chok Tong was accompanied by Ambassador of Singapore to Myanmar Mr. Robert Chua and MP Mr. Zaqy Mohamad and officials.

The visiting Emeritus Senior Minister talked about his relations with State and Tatmadaw leaders since his first visit to Myanmar 37 years ago, his learning of situation about an important role of Myanmar Tatmadaw in nation-building tasks, power transform from the military government to a civilian one after the systematic drawing of a constitution, power handover from the first term to the second term of multi-party democracy in a peaceful and stable manner, Tatmadaw’s full cooperation in the success of those processes, the Tatmadaw being in the first pillar as a strong and compact one and political parties and other organizations working for promoting democracy being in the second pillar and the need to have links between the two pillars based on mutual trust. He expressed his love for Myanmar wishing her prosperity.

Then, the Senior General discussed situations on political, economic and administrative reforms implemented by the fi rst-term government in Myanmar as of 2011 for clearly realizing the democratic administrative system, political reform process being carried out by the current second-term government, needs of considering the maturity of democracy and weak security measures, standing and undertakings of the Tatmadaw for ensuring peace and stability during the one-year period of current government and the Hluttaw and achieving success in democratic reform processes, achievements in the first-term government due to cooperation of the Tatmadaw, and collaboration of the Tatmadaw with aspiration in implementing the multi-party democracy system with success in a stable manner, developing the nation, and strengthening economy.

Next, both sides cordially exchanged views on necessary participation of the Tatmadaw for contributing towards State economy as much as possible so as to develop the nation, needs of the government to encourage the State economy, matters related to attending the business supporting course, emphasis being placed by the Myanmar Tatmadaw on contributing towards the State economy, and collaboration for prioritizing the food sector.
