It took four years of discussions based on the proposals of armed ethnic groups before the NCA was signed. Likewise, the present Union Peace Conference: the 21st Century Panglong is based on the NCA. The Tatmadaw always opens the peace door, and is lending a helping hand for the success of the conference, said Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with members of Peace Process Steering Team-PPST of the NCA signatory armed ethnic groups led by Chairman of Karen National Union-KNU Saw Mutu Sae Poe at Bayintnaung Parlour here at 2 pm yesterday.
Also present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commanderin- Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Mya Tun Oo, and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army). Saw Mutu Sae Poe was accompanied by the PPST members Patron of Pa-O National Liberation Organization-PNLO Khun Okka, Vice-Chairman of Arakan Liberation Party-ALP Khaing Soe Naing Aung, Chairman of All Burma Students’ Democratic Front- ABSDF U Than Khe and Khun Sai of Restoration Council of Shan State/ Shan State Army-RCSS/SSA. At the call, the Senior General explained the facts about the Tatmadaw’s efforts for the peace processes and signing of the NCA for building up a modern developed nation, working in unity and in accord with disciplines and laws for the country’s development, totally sensitive situations of Our Three Main National Causes being safeguarded by the Tatmadaw based on its 70-year experience and paying attention to the sixpoint peace principles. The Senior General urged them to stick to the NCA’s policies as they signed the NCA based on their own policies after a series of talks.
Then, Chairman of PPST Saw Mutu Sae Poe said that he accepted the armed confl icts which are at the highest level regarding the political affairs should be solved on the political way but it cannot solve any problems, adding that he pledged to continuously cooperate with the government and the Tatmadaw until they enjoy the fruits of peace process based on the NCA. Other members of PPST reported on difficulties they are facing at present, and situations on future plans to be implemented. The Senior General discussed efforts of the Tatmadaw in opening the peace door forever with regard to the NCA, actual situations of recent skirmishes, the problems between the Tatmadaw and some armed ethnic groups, necessities to consider everything under the law, and matters related to ensuring quick process of connection machinery with armed ethnic groups in peace processes.
After the meeting, the Senior General cordially greeted Chairman of Peace Process Steering Team- PPST of the NCA signatory armed ethnic groups Saw Mutu Sae Poe and members.
