Even though the national defence is the duty of the Tatmadaw, it also has the responsibility to restore peace, stability and unity in accordance with the call of the historical trend the country had passed through. What’s more, the act of willingly throwing itself into the utmost physical and intellectual contributions for the progress of the country that lagged behind development for many years is also a mission of the Tatmadaw. The Tatmadaw will make efforts till the national peace can be guaranteed, vowed Commanderin- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at his meeting with Minister of Defence of Japan H.E. Mr. Gen NAKATANI at Zeyathiri Parlour here at 8 am yesterday.

As regards the bilateral military relations, the Senior General explained the formation of the Tatmadaw with Japanese help during the independence struggle and the bilateral relations beginning from the post-independence era till now. The cordial talks were then centred on the ongoing military cooperation, search and rescue operations during natural disasters, humanitarian activities, weather forecasting science, other training affairs, bayonet fighting sports, public healthcare undertakings, naval relations and exchange of military goodwill and study tours.

Later, views were exchanged on the Tatmadaw’s involvement and help in the reforms of the country, endeavours with utmost concessions in restoring national peace and stability, Japanese cooperation and assistance, and the peaceful inclusion of ethnic armed groups through

proper means within the framework of multiparty democracy. The two sides continued to hold talks on Japan- ASEAN defence ministers meeting and regional peace and stability.

Also present at the call together with the Senior General were Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in- Chief (Army).
