Do the right thing with fatherly, commander spirit

Training schools and courses are the qualification enhancement centres amidst the requirements for continuous learning of ever advancing military hardware and tactics. In fact training schools and courses are disseminating weapon and tactical knowledge and skill. Military technology and command and control tactics taught by these schools and courses must be applied in the practical field. As these institutions are places where knowledge for future duties are disseminated, trainees must try hard and should have self-control, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in his meeting with senior officer trainees of Command and General Staff College at Kalaw station yesterday morning.

Concerning leadership ability, the Senior General said high military qualification depends on good leadership. They (trainees) should do the right thing with fatherly spirit and commander spirit. They must ensure fair and just administration with fatherly spirit as leadership has much impact on the unit. Additionally, bold leadership must be made under the commander spirit. Only with the correct words and right actions they can give a good leadership and they can win the trust and respect of their subordinates under the motto "follow my words and actions".

Timekeeping as well as supervision for timely completion of specific work is important and there must be mutual respect in shouldering duties. Good leadership will be responded with goodwork and all must value their work.

As physicians and health officers have already been assigned effective health knowledge awareness and disease prevention programs can be ensured. They must undergo regular medical check-ups. Records show that the average lifespan of the country is 66 years. Soldiers and families must take health measures for living longer than the average lifespan.

Systematic physical exercise will help improve physical and mental health and fitness. Uplift of sport amounts to improving national defence power and national sports standard.

With regard to the democracy, the Senior General said that the Tatmadaw will realize the multiparty democracy system in line with the people wishes for ensuring sustainability of the system under the law. Some countries broke down in the international community during the reform period. As Myanmar has been on the path of democratization for just five years, it should amend necessary points under the Chapter XII of the Constitution at an opportune time. In general, the amendment should not undermine the Our Three Main National Causes. Peace and stability plays a pivotal role in realizing the democratization process. Likewise, rule of law is the most important. Thus, it must solve the armed confl icts of ethnic groups. The armed struggle line cannot realize democracy. If one accepts democracy, one can make demands under the law by abandoning the armed struggle line.

The Senior General continued to say that the nation without peace, stability and unity cannot achieve development. On the other hand, priority must be given to turning out qualified human resources for development of the nation. According to the facts and figures of education sector, there were about 1.2 million kindergarten students in 2004, compared with about 620,000 sixth grade students in 2009 with 49 per cent decline at the primary level. There were over 370,000 10th grade students in 2013 which was 70 per cent less than that of student number in 2004 at primary and middle levels. In 2014/15, a total of about 130,000 students out of about 360,000 passed the matriculation examination. As such, just 10 per cent students who passed the examinations from KG to matriculation can pursue higher education. Likewise, a total of over 1.15 million of students attended the KG class in 2005, in comparison with over 640,000 sixth grade students in 2010. Therefore, only 56 per cent of students reached the sixth grade class. Among them, over 410,000 students could pursue education at the 10th grade, accounting for 35 per cent and over 350,000 students at matriculation class, accounting for 30 per cent only. Thus, the country needs a large number of educated persons. The Tatmadaw is implementing

education promotion programmes not only for the servicemen but also for their family members. It is necessary to make arrangements for firmly standing of offspring on their own. And, the plan must be set to enable the family members of Tatmadawmen to stand tall among the people with prestige. War veterans’ housings and homes for the aged are under construction for the Tatmadawmen who have retired from the Tatmadaw so as conveniently overcome difficulties of remaining life.

Also present at the meeting were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Tin Aung San, senior military officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Eastern Command, the commandant of Command and General Staff College and 220 Lt- Col level trainees.

After the meeting, the Senior General and party had lunch together with the trainees at the mess hall.

Afterwards, the Senior General visited the library of the Command and General Staff College. He called for systematic keeping of books and book rental system, placing books on different subjects and promoting reading habits that will help widen the scope of knowledge of trainees and training officers as every book you haven't yet read is new.

Afterwards, the Senior General and party viewed teaching and learning-aid LCD display wall and then give necessary instructions. At the meeting hall of Tatmadaw hospital in Aungban station, the commandant of the hospital reported to the senior general on four tasks for army building and giving medical treatments to military personnel, their family members and local people. Then, the senior general fulfilled the needs for medical treatments and administrative matters.

He urged officials to grow plants for greening, carry out works for agriculture and livestock with few people effectively and perform welfare tasks in accord with the set policies.

Then, the senior general and party encouraged hospitalized patients at the special intensive care unit of the hospital and presented gifts to them.

Afterwards, the senior general and party met military personnel who will sit for the matriculation exam and are attending national races language courses.

After hearing the report on opening of educational courses at the office of the principal, the senior general called on trainees and instructors to try harder and to follow disciplines during training period as the Tatmadaw has been spending time, labour and a large sum of money on conducting education courses so as to improve education standard of servicemen.
