Mya Nan San Kyaw Palace's interior to get repaired

Mandalay May 25

The interior of Mya Nan San Kyaw Palace in Mandalay will be repaired at an estimated cost of 50 millioin kyats, said an official from Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library.

The chambers, roofs, tombs of King Mindon and royal family members, mint, halls for keeping Sabbath and some stone scripts will be repaired.

Annually, more than 100,000 tourists visit Mandalay Archaeological Zone and criticism arose as ancients buildings inside the zone have been barely repaired in spite of increased revenues from admission fees.

A tourist said: “I am proud to this palace which however should be systematically maintained for its durability. Again, there should be good toilets for travelers to the palace.”

King Mindon ordered building of Mya Nan San Kyaw royal palace, city wall and moat in ME 1218 and moved to the new palace in ME 1220. The old court, Thiha Thana Throne, glass palace, watch tower and some chambers in the last royal city in Myanmar not only attract local travelers but also globetrotters.
