Myanmar has 1,148 hotels nationwide

Myanmar has got 213 new hotels with 8,307 rooms in one year period from March 2014 to March 2015, according to sources from Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The number of hotels in Myanmar has now reached 1,148 with 45,331 rooms, said the ministry.

According to statistics of the ministry, the commercial capital Yangon has 298 hotels with 13,990 rooms. Meanwhile, the old royal city Mandalay has 148 hotels with 6,069 rooms; the administrative capital Nay Pyi Taw has 59 rooms with 4,904 rooms; the favorite destination of tourists the cultural showcase Bagan has 77 hotels with 2,484 rooms and Shan State’s major town Taunggyi and Inlay Lake has 93 hotels with 2,801 rooms.

Of the new 213 hotels, eight are in Nay Pyi Taw, 20 in Mandalay, 44 in Ngwe Saung Beach and 55 in Yangon.

Foreign companies have invested over 2.5 billion USD in 46 projects in hotel industry by the end of 2014 and Singapore is at the top of the list with over 1.5 billion USD investment invested in 20 hotel projects.

Last year, the country received over 3 million foreign tourists. Considering the current number of tourist arrivals, the demand for hotel room is below the supply, suggested tour operators. (447)
