Yadana gas field starts operating new wells to boost production



Yangon March 9

Yadana offshore gas field, located in the Andaman Sea, has started new well projects that have potential to increase production according to geological conditions, said a news source published by the Ministry of Energy on March 6.

Yadana gas field is Myanmar’s first offshore gas project being implemented between Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise and Total E&P Myanmar Company, which started its operation in the country in 1992. Yadana gas field exports 500 million cubic feet of gas through pipelines and provide about 200 million cubic feet daily for domestic consumption. To be able to produce largest volume till 2020, the project has begun operating new gas wells namely M-5 and M-6.

The Yadana gas project is a major source of foreign income making efforts to reduce environmental impact as much as possible.

Since 1995, about US$ 38 million has been spent on education, health, agricultural and infrastructural improvement of the local people in the project area. Union Minister for Energy U Zeyar Aung, Myanmar Investment Commission member Brig-Gen Kyaw Zan Myin, managing directors of the ministry and company officials visited the rig of the gas project for inspection on March 6.
