The World Buddhist Peace Conference was launched this morning at the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy, run by Most Ven. Dr. Ashin Nyanissara, Chancellor Sayadaw of Sitagu International Buddhist Academy, in Sagaing Hills, Sagaing, Myanmar.
The event will be held from Jan 22 to 25 with the aim of promoting peace through religious teachings.
The items on the agenda include reciting NamoTassa three times, lighting holy lamps, recitation of religious verses and addresses and messages delivered by President U Thien Sein and the most Venerable sayadaws as well as the religious seminars and paper reading sessions.
Over 200 religious experts from 52 countries and over 500 observers including local interfaith groups attended the conference.
“Mainly we will discuss how to maintain peace, how to build peace, and how to solve problems or how to handle a problem when there is one,” said Ashin Kumara, who is organizing the conference adding that we will even do case studies from other countries where there have been religious problems, and then learn from them how they brokered peace in their communities.”
Under the supervision of Sitagu Sayadaw, Sitagu Management Team has made necessary arrangement to accommodate the international delegates in Mandalay and Sagaing regions.The Sitagu International Buddhist Academy has been established since 1994 to provide, teach and train missionary monks.
According to the official of Sitagu International Buddhist Academy, Tibetan monks will convey the Buddhist relics from Himalayan Mountains to the conference and discussions on global peace in Buddhist view will be made.
